Some treatments take longer than others, and some involve treatments can be done at home while others can be completed after a single session in our dental clinic.

Today, teeth whitening is a commonly used procedure in cosmetic dentistry. If you have sensitive teeth (or a particular sensitive tooth), you’ll be glad to know that Auckland Dental Care has a proven teeth whitening procedure that won’t cause any undue pain.
Auckland Dental Care offers two types of teeth whitening, the professional Beyond Whitening system, and the Home Teeth Whitening Tray Kit.
Beyond Teeth Whitening
BEYOND Whitening’s patented “cold light” technology when used with a specially designed teeth whitening gel gives you quick and effective whitening. This is an advanced technique that uses a filtration system that eliminates exposure to harmful UV light and heat, and therefore reducing sensitivity.
BEYOND Whitening gel (hydrogen peroxide) is alkaline which prevents damage to your teeth. It also contains calcium and minerals to enhance and strengthen your teeth. The active agent has been safely used for many years in the treatment of gums and other oral soft tissue.
The gel is very safe and stays on your teeth for only around 30 minutes, the total procedure, including consultation and preparation takes around 90 minutes.

Home Whitening Tray Kit
If you want whiter teeth from the comfort and privacy of your own home, the Home Whitening Tray Kit is the ideal solution.
To get started, simply come into Auckland Dental Care in Remuera for an assessment. During your assessment, we will make custom trays that fit your mouth perfectly. This means that the gel works on your teeth evenly and efficiently, and also ensures that the trays are the most comfortable to use.
As soon as your custom trays are ready, you’ll need to come back to the clinic to fit the trays and make any adjustments if necessary. You will get a separate tray for your upper and lower teeth which are clear and are made from a soft flexible and durable plastic.

To get started, the Home Teeth Whitening System requires an initial investment of only $399, which gives you

1. How does the Home Whitening Kit compare with other whitening products, like those available in pharmacies or supermarkets?
We often see clients who have tried off-the-shelf products and have been unhappy with the results. It is very important that you consult your dentist before embarking on any whitening treatment. Sometimes tooth whitening procedures without consultation can result in your teeth looking worse or causing irreparable damage.
Off-the-shelf products such as paint-on liquids and application strips do whiten your teeth to some degree, but to get the best looking, long lasting results, a professional tooth whitening system is required. Supervision by your dental team is essential when you want the best looking teeth.
2. What does the Home Whitening Process involve?
The entire treatment takes just two short sessions (around 15 min each). In the first appointment your teeth will be examined by one of our Cosmetic Dentists. In this session, the clinician will then take an impression of your teeth that will be used to make your custom whitening trays. In your second session, you’ll receive your custom trays that fit your mouth exactly. The clinician will teach you how to load the trays with the whitening gel and you can whiten your teeth whenever you want from the comfort of your own home.
3. How soon will I start to see visibly whiter teeth?
When using the Home Whitening System, we recommend you wear the trays for only half and hour each day for around 8-12 days depending on what result you you are looking for and how white your teeth are already. Everyone is different and needs differing levels of treatment. For severely heavily stained teeth such as tetracycline stains, several applications of the Home Whitening System may be required. For extreme staining, we also recommend you try the professional BEYOND Whitening treatment at our clinic in Remuera in combination with the home maintenance trays to keep your smile looking white.
4. Is Home Whitening safe?
Recent scientific research has shown that the active ingredients in the whitening gel used are safe for cosmetic teeth whitening, even when done by yourself. The New Zealand dental community has used these ingredients in performing teeth whitening for years before they were being offered for home use. The whitening gel used in the Home Whitening System does not change or damage the structure of your teeth.
5. Does whitening your teeth hurt at all?
Most of our clients experience no pain or sensitivity during or after the treatment. A very small percentage of clients may feel some minor tooth sensitivity, especially if they consume very cold or hot foods or drinks within a few hours after the treatment. Therefore it is recommended that clients avoid consuming extremely hot or cold food or beverages for the first 24 hours following the treatment. Further instructions will be given to individuals who suffer from sensitive teeth.
6. Is the Home Whitening Treatment available for everyone to use?
The Home Whitening System can be used by anyone who wants to whiten their teeth while relaxing at home. In some cases it isn’t recommended, for example: if you’re pregnant or if you’re sixteen.
