You’ve seen the ads on television and perhaps you’ve wondered if dental teeth whitening is something you should do. It seems the toothpaste aisle is filled with dental teeth whitening kits all promising to dramatically change your smile in anywhere from seven days to a month or more. The choices are almost endless, and it can be daunting trying to figure out what your needs are, and what will suit them. So how do you figure out if you even need dental teeth whitening?

Chances are, we all could use a little help. Almost everything we put in our mouth stains our teeth at least temporarily, some a little more than others. For instance, that morning cup of coffee is a big source of stains, especially if you drink it every day and don’t brush afterwards. Combine that with the occasional glass of red wine, or heaven forbid, cigarettes, and over time your teeth will definitely be stained a darker color than they should be.

Some other common tooth staining items are tea, colas, and fruits such as blueberries. Brushing immediately after having these things helps, but inevitably we could all benefit from dental teeth whitening. Just how much and what kind is a matter of choice based on our needs.

Your Dentist Knows Best

If you feel dental teeth whitening is something you would like to try, the obvious place to start investigating is your dentist’s office. Your dentist can help give you a realistic view of how much dental teeth whitening you need and whether over the counter products can help you or whether you should consider dental teeth whitening in the dentist office. They may recommend you try an over the counter whitening product first as they are much more cost effective.

It’s important to talk to your dentist about any over the counter dental teeth whitening products you are considering trying, as they can recommend which ones might work best with your teeth. Different people have varying degrees of tooth sensitivity and many whitening products increase this sensitivity. Your dentist should be able to help you pick the product that will be best for your teeth.

Be Realistic

As in the case of most things, with dental teeth whitening products, you usually get what you pay for. The quickest and best results are going to be from professional whitening in your dentist’s office, but often at a hefty price. However, there are over the counter products that are very effective, they just take longer to see results.

It pays to have realistic expectations. You’re not going to get a blinding white smile from most over the counter products, but then again, you don’t want people to be distracted by how white your teeth are. Your teeth should appear natural, and most people’s teeth are not a blinding white.

One is most prone to notice the condition of one’s teeth only when they fall off as they are otherwise taken for granted and don’t seem important till they are no longer present in the mouth. Be that as it may, with new methods of treating teeth including cosmetic dentistry, the loss of teeth need not be a cause for any major concern. It is now possible to replace those teeth that have fallen off as well as take good care of those that remain.

Cosmetic Dentistry To Replace Missing Teeth

Dental bridges are a natural way of using cosmetic dentistry to replace your missing teeth and a dental bridge can be used as a replacement for one or more of your teeth. However, the dental bridge cannot be used when a considerable amount of teeth need to be replaced and can best be thought of as being a false tooth or set of teeth that is kept together between two crowns. If you don’t wish to spend a lot of money, you can also avail of the option of attaching a wire to the back of any adjoining tooth so as to keep the false tooth in place. However, such an option can only be used on your front teeth.

In today’s time, it is very essential that a person has good looks and being smart as well as looking smart is on top of most people’s minds and wish lists. Thus, a person will need to have teeth that are healthy as well as have good looking gums if one wants to get ahead in life. And, anyone can loose a tooth at any time and even aging is a major cause of tooth loss. Thus, you may be in need of restorative dentistry and the dental bridge is one of the better as well as more effective means to get relief from your tooth loss condition.

The dental bridge is a dental device that is used to replace your missing teeth and is also available in removable as well as fixed forms. They are certainly ideal for filling gaps in your mouth and with proper dental hygiene, they will last you for about ten years or so. If you do decide to have a dental bridge, you should also realize that it requires paying close attention to your dental hygiene so that food that is trapped around the dental bridge does not end up creating serious health concerns.

The bottom line is that with a dental bridge you should be able to get back a winning smile that you have always longed for, as well as be able to correct problems with your teeth.

A lot of people lose their teeth to improper dental care. If you are one of those people whose teeth are beginning to show signs of damages, it would be a good idea for you to visit your dentist at once and stop the deterioration of your teeth. Do not let anything spoil that beautiful smile of yours. Besides, stopping the dental care problem right from the very beginning will save you a lot of money and effort is restoring your teeth to its former beauty.

Preventive Measures

If your teeth are perfect, you should never just take that perfect set of teeth for granted. If you do not give your teeth proper dental care, you will soon find your teeth showing signs of deterioration. To make sure that your teeth stay beautiful, you should religiously brush your teeth at least twice a day. Use toothpaste with fluoride and calcium when brushing your teeth. According experts, fluoride will help strengthen your teeth and at the same time prevent dryness in your mouth.

When to your dental care, make sure that you use a toothbrush that is not more three months old. Change your toothbrush every three months. If you find it hard to keep track of the number of months that you have used your toothbrush, use a calendar to mark the day of the month when you have to change your toothbrush. Always remember that the quality of the tooth brush that you use will affect the cleanliness of your mouth so make sure that you do not use old or contaminated toothbrushes.

Quit Smoking

Dental care and smoking does not go well together. The nicotine for cigarette will stain your teeth and make it weak. According to studies, smokers generally have more dental problems compared to those people who do not smoke. Beside, not only will smoking stain your teeth, it will also cause a lot of other damages to your body especially you lungs.

Eat Plenty Of Good Food

The strength of your teeth will depend much on the type of food that you eat. Eating good food should be part of your dental care routine. Avoid eating too much sweet. If you drink some beverages that are high in ascorbic acid, make sure that you gurgle or drink some water right after to remove the acid. You may also use drinking straws when drinking beverages with high concentration of ascorbic acid to make sure that minimum amount of liquid will directly come into contact with your teeth. Always remember that high concentration of ascorbic acid can cause damages to your teeth.

Many people wish for that perfectly straight smile and will go to any lengths to achieve it. Some wear metal braces for years and undergo several and somewhat painful treatments to finally get a better bite and smile. However, in order to reach your goals you need to take care of the dental braces in between dentist visits so that your time, money and pain are minimized.

Food

Unfortunately, you can not eat just anything and everything you used to until you have your dental braces. Care for your orthodontic treatment by avoiding gooey, sugary and sticky food like gummy candy, raisins, hard bubble gum and the like. You may not notice it but small specks of hard food like popcorn or nuts and potato chips can lodge themselves in the nooks and crannies between your teeth and case complications.

Many dentists are of the opinion that it is not how many sugary snacks you eat, but how frequently you consume them and how you care for your dental braces after the snack. For instance, it is worse to have a few gummy bears every few hours throughout the day as opposed to sitting down and having half a bag full and thoroughly brushing your teeth after that.

Dentists also advise that if you do really want to eat something that is not particularly advisable for your braces, have it with a meal rather than on its own to minimize the adverse affects.

Brushing and Flossing

Brushing does become a little more difficult when you have dental braces but caring for them becomes even more important. Otherwise food debris left in between the metal wires and the crevices in your teeth can lead to bad breath, cavities, bleeding gums and other such complications that can prolong the length and cost of the treatment.

Dentists recommend investing in a powered toothbrush so that it can rotate in and around the teeth making it harder to miss a spot or two. Many people prefer oral irrigators, proxy brushes and automatic flossers when caring for their dental braces. Ask your orthodontist for a brand recommendation.

Intimacy

If you are sexually active and wear dental braces, care must be taken especially when French kissing or having oral sex. This is because the metal in the braces can tear the condom making the wearer and his or her partner more susceptible to HIV or other sexually transmitted diseases or an unwanted pregnancy. Similarly, dental braces care should include being careful about mouth sores and ulcers so that the metal doesn’t aggravate the condition.

Invisible Braces

Many people feel that by opting for the new Invisalign kind of braces, they can skip most of the dental braces care, but that is not true. The American Dental Association recommends hat even though Invisalign is a great invention, it can not replace braces as it is only suitable for minor work for those people who already have a good bite. Also, it is not suitable for children.

Therefore traditional dental braces are here to stay; it is up to you to take care of them so that you reach your target smile sooner and with minimum discomfort. Good Luck!

Some people simply have trouble wearing dentures and may have a tough time with tooth replacements due to the alignment of existing natural teeth. By using dental implants, one or more teeth can be replaced without the need for adjustment of adjacent teeth or the need to fit a partial plate, which can be loose in the mouth. They offer one of the most natural looking cosmetic options for replacing lost teeth.

Whether the teeth were lost by accident or through decay, as long as person is in good overall health and has healthy gums free of periodontal disease they may be a candidate for dental implants. During the procedure, an artificial root, typically stainless steel or titanium is surgically implanted into the jaw to hold the tooth firmly in place. In cases where a bridge with two or more teeth is replaced, a single root can hold it into place. This does away with the need to use adjacent teeth as support for securing the artificial teeth.

In addition to providing a secure means of keeping the teeth in place, other benefits to using dental implants include the elimination of gaps between teeth or the need for other devices to insure the space between the teeth remains constant over the year. Bone loss and receding gums are often present in people who use bridges, but with dental implants this does not occur. The implants appear exactly the same as adjacent natural teeth.

No Fear Of Misplacing Replacement Teeth

With dentures and bridges there is always the opportunity to set them down forget where they are, similar to the car keys. They are held firmly in place and there is no need to remove them for cleaning. Additionally, since dental implants are imbedded into the bone, there is no opportunity for food particle to get between a plate and the mouth and cause irritation.

While dental implants are more common for single tooth replacement and the replacement of several teeth, full denture sets can be held in place with dental implants as well. This procedure will prevent slippage of dentures without the need for bonding materials to hold them to the gums. They are also held firmly in place regardless of what is being eaten.

There are a few qualifications to be a good candidate for dental implants including a jawbone high enough to attach the dental implants as well as good overall health. The procedure is typically performed by a periodontist and those interested in dental implants should contact one to determine if the procedure is right for them.

Are you one of those people who have bad breath? Bad breath can really be very embarrassing that people who are suffering from this condition should seek help regarding their condition. In most cases, bad breath is caused by poor dental hygiene and some dental problems. To help you get rid of your bad breath, here are some tips for you.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

It is very important that you visit your dentist for regular check ups and dental hygiene. You need to have your teeth cleaned every six months to make sure that your teeth and gums and healthy. If you feel that there is something wrong with your breath, do not wait for your next scheduled visit to the dentist, set an appointment with your dentist immediately and get help is solving your dental problems.

Since visits to the dentist can be quite expensive, be sure to update your dental care insurance regularly so that you will receive continued coverage. If your dental health coverage is limited, try to explore other types of dental health care insurances that will give you comprehensive coverage.

Brush Your Teeth Properly

A cardinal rule is dental hygiene is the proper brushing of teeth. You need to brush your teeth twice daily to remove any plaque and food particles from your teeth. When brushing your teeth, use toothpaste that is recommended by your dentist. Never mind those advertisement about toothpaste that whitens the teeth and all, you can’t really be sure that these type of toothpaste work. The best way to take care of your teeth is to follow the dental hygiene directors given by your dentist.

When brushing your teeth, do not forget your tongue. According to studies, you tongue harbors bacteria that may cause bad breath. As part of your dental hygiene routine, you need to brush your tongue to remove the bacteria from it. There are some types of toothbrushes that have built in tongue massagers or cleaners. Your dentist will know where you can get these types of toothbrush.

Use A Dental Floss

When it comes to dental hygiene, brushing your teeth may not be enough. There are certain areas in your mouth that cannot be cleaned with the use of a toothbrush. To clean the areas between your teeth, you may use dental floss as part of your dental hygiene routine. Use dental floss to remove food particles lodged in between your teeth. Note food that are trapped between your teeth will start to rot in a few hours and will cause bad breath so make sure that you remove these food particles right after eating.

When contemplating a major medical decision of any kind, most people do as much research as they can. It’s important to get all the facts to help put your mind at ease when going through a major medical procedure. But what about a major dental procedure? Do you give it the same thought and importance as any other medical decision? You should.

The fact is, while you may never have to have open heart surgery or your appendix removed, chances are at some point in your life you will have to have dental surgery. Root canals, crowns, and removal of wisdom teeth, are all things most of us will have to face, and dental surgery should be taken just as seriously as any other medical surgery. Here are some things you should think about before dental surgery becomes a necessity.

Dental Surgery Has Its Risks

Just like any other surgery, dental surgery carries with it risks that you need to talk about with your dentist. For instance, if you have had an allergic reaction to anesthetic in the past, this is something your dentist or oral surgeon needs to know about. Just because dental surgery does not always take place in a hospital setting does not mean the possible side effects are not as serious. It’s important to be up front with your dentist about your entire medical history before having dental surgery to avoid complications.

It’s also important to talk to your dentist or oral surgeon about aftereffects of your dental surgery. How long will it take for the anesthetic to wear off? What side effects of the anesthetic are normal? What is a normal amount of swelling? Is there a possibility of nerve damage? What other symptoms are to be expected, and which ones should prompt you to call him or her right away? Knowing the answers to these questions ahead of time will go a long way in helping you deal with the healing process after your surgery.

Your Dentist, Your Friend

You should feel as comfortable with your oral surgeon as you do with your family doctor. You wouldn’t let someone cut into your stomach that you don’t feel completely confident in, and you shouldn’t let someone cut into your mouth that you don’t feel completely confident in either. Finding a good dentist and oral surgeon before you need dental surgery is a must. You don’t want to be frantically searching for someone at the last minute should an emergency arise.

In a looks obsessed society, often appearances trump other concerns. Whether it is cosmetic surgery or fad diets, appearances can kill. Some over do things such as surgery becoming convinced they are ugly. Others starve themselves to achieve the perfect body. The smile is another cosmetic obsession.

Pastes, creams, bleaches, putties, and many other dental products can enhance the smile, but at what cost? Some of the procedures are relatively short-lived and often painful. Dental orthodontics, while expensive offers a consistent return for the money. But is more than just cosmetics.

Dental Orthodontics and Tooth Health

Without dental orthodontics, many people would have painful conditions that could cost them more in the long run. Some people are born with mouths too small to accommodate their permanent teeth. When the baby teeth come out, those with this condition face teeth coming in on top of one another, crowding each other out and so forth. Further, if the teeth are allowed to come in without intervention, severe pain and more severe surgery is required to cut out the teeth that will not fit.

Dental orthodontics offers a surgery free solution. The solution is to make space. This is best accomplished while the patient is still growing and loosing baby teeth. Spacers are put in place to move the teeth over. A metal bar is attached that must be turned each night to move the teeth further apart.

Regular orthodontist visits allow the doctor to examine the progress that is made based on previous x-rays and pictures of the mouth. When the right amount of spacing is there, the orthodontist applies the braces. These appliances are no longer cumbersome. They are light weight and attach to the teeth with a softer touch. For the most part, the need for bands and headgear has been eliminated. Dental orthodontics has come along way in its use of technology.

Kids Can’t Wait

The stigma attached to braces has lessened considerably over the years as more and more dentists have recognized the benefits of dental orthodontics. As a result, braces have become a rite of passage. It also doesn’t hurt that braces can come in colors and some are even clear so that their appearance is less noticeable.

Most orthodontists offer payment plans that can accommodate almost any budget and also, more and more insurance companies are covering the cost of dental orthodontics. If you or a loved one need this service, it is now within reach. It is not simply a matter of looks. It is a matter of health.

In today’s world of outpatient cosmetic surgery and makeover shows on television, the pursuit of the perfect look is an ever growing one. Even with the counter trends of accepting ourselves as who we are, and growing old gracefully, many people are still searching for ways they can improve on their looks. Liposuction, tummy tucks, and face lifts are now procedures that are easily attainable by the average person.

But what if the problem is not with your body, but another often overlooked part of you, your smile? There has been growing emphasis recently on having the perfect smile, with over the counter whitening products and fancy toothbrushes being advertised like crazy.

If your problem is a little more complex than just teeth that are a shade too dark, however, a dental makeover could be that step towards looking the way you think you should. For some people, a dental makeover is a health necessity. Regardless, what a dental makeover means is different for each person.

Talk To Your Dentist

If you feel a total dental makeover is something you want to consider, obviously the first place you should go is to your dentist. Make an appointment for a consultation and discuss everything you have concerns about, even if it seems petty.

Whether you just want straighter teeth, or you have chronic bad breath, your dentist can help but only if you talk about it. By being completely open and honest with your dentist, he or she can get an idea of exactly what you are looking for in a dental makeover and help you decide the route to get there.

The most important aspect in being totally forthcoming is when filling out medical history forms. Dental procedures are medical procedures too, something we often forget, and your dentist needs to know an accurate history, as well as all medications you are on, to avoid complications when and if you have dental work done.

Your Smile And Your Self Esteem

We feel good when we smile, and as anyone who has problem teeth knows, you don’t feel comfortable smiling when your smile doesn’t look good. A dental makeover can fix the problem with your smile, even if it’s just a small imperfection, like a chipped tooth or teeth that need to be whitened.

Smiling with confidence does wonders for our self esteem, and often it doesn’t take much to be able to do so. A dental makeover doesn’t have to mean revamping the entire inside of your mouth. It’s whatever it takes to make you feel good about the way your mouth looks combined with good dental health. Your dentist can help you decide what you can do together to help make that happen.

Dental surgery can be very traumatic for some people and very trite for others. It depends on your pain tolerance and the type of dental surgery that you have as to how you will react after dental surgery. Twenty years ago, having your wisdom teeth pulled would require a full two days in bed. Today, dentists will have you in and out of the chair in an hour or two and you can go straight back to work. But if you have an intolerance to the type of anesthesia the dentist uses, then it would be wise to go home and sleep the rest of the day after your dental surgery.

Medical Care

The medical care that is needed after dental surgery is very minimal compared to major medical surgery. Changing the gauze on the affected area periodically the first few hours is required and taking extra strength Tylenol or maybe something a little stronger will help to fight the pain. It is always a good idea to take the pain medication one half hour before the required time, so one pill doesn’t wear off before you can take the other one.

Gargling with salt water should help keep the wound from bleeding and help to rid your mouth of antiseptic taste. It is very unwise to drink out of a straw after dental surgery. The sucking motion will make you dizzy and nauseous. Vomiting is not something you want to do right after dental surgery. The mouth is sore enough and there is no need to aggravate it further. So, the rule of thumb is to never drink out of a straw right after dental surgery and eat a milk shake with a spoon rather than through a straw.

If it is necessary for you to go home and go to bed after your dental surgery, then sleep in a sitting up position, at least for the first night. This will help prevent the wound or stitched area from bleeding. If you do start bleeding, than eat a popsicle because the cold iciness will help to clot the blood flow. An ice pack will also help the swelling go down on your cheeks. Staying quiet for a day or two should help the healing process and the sooner you heal, the better you will feel. It doesn’t take long for the gum tissue to heal after dental surgery and pretty soon you will be as good as new.
